The LMU Dance Program, housed in the College of Communication and Fine Arts of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, is seeking a Clinical Assistant Professor to contribute to our curriculum by teaching high-level dance practice and relevant, critical theory courses within the dance major. The position will begin in fall 2025.

The Clinical Assistant Professor position is a full-time term position with contracts from one to five years. The Clinical Assistant Professor would be teaching 3-4 courses per term or engaged in teaching-related duties. The ideal candidate will demonstrate content mastery and teaching expertise in ballet and/or jazz and/or hip-hop or street styles, as well as dance studies.

Additional desirable qualifications include dance film production, choreographing for screen, dance pedagogy, dance and community engagement/activism, business in dance.

The position requires 1) a degree of MA or MFA 2) demonstrated teaching proficiency of at least three years (full-time preferred), 3) demonstrated professional-level experience in the creative/performance field. Individuals who evidence a commitment to practices of Antiracism, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion through scholarly and creative activity, pedagogical practice, civic or community engagement and/or a position statement will be given preference.

Applicants should show evidence of the ability to teach all levels of a relevant movement practice; evidence of ability to teach dance studies and/or critical theory in dance; and evidence of a commitment to culturally relevant, diverse, and inclusive teaching practices.

About the LMU Dance Program

The LMU Dance Program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance and offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance. The program serves approximately 100 dance majors and minors, as well as liberal studies majors (elementary education) and the general student population. The LMU Dance Program strives to cultivate critical awareness of artistry, history, politics, and corporeality while valuing and actively engaging the presence of multiple identities and experiences.  Careers of LMU graduates include but are not limited to: professional performance and choreography, studio and preK-12 teaching, physical therapy and physical training, nursing, medicine, law, business, filmmaking, and social justice work.
