Professor of Practice (open to Tenure Track Assistant Professor)
The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) of the Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (MSFEA) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for a full-time position at one of the following ranks: Professor of Practice, or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, in the area of Mechanical Design. We seek an accomplished practitioner with deep, hands-on experience developing complex, high-performance mechanical systems at scale (e.g., aerospace actuation/landing gear, automotive drivetrains, biomedical devices/robotics, or precision consumer electromechanical assemblies)
The successful candidate must hold a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field (exceptional candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and extraordinary accomplishments will be considered); or a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Preferred; and required for the tenure-track rank). The candidate should have evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate level or mentorship in a professional setting; graduate-level teaching potential is desirable. The applicant to the Professor of Practice position should have 10+ years of progressively responsible industry design experience, including leading cross-functional teams. For the tenure-track position, the candidate must demonstrate potential for an impactful research program in design, materials, and/or manufacturing (computational and/or experimental).
The candidate is expected to teach undergraduate (and, as applicable, graduate) courses, in mechanical design and related laboratories; mentor student teams. The candidate should play a key role in strengthening the design spine across the undergraduate curriculum and serve as a technical design consultant for capstone/final-year projects. He/ She must develop an independent, externally visible research agenda and pursue competitive funding.

In addition, a complete curriculum vitae, and the names and contact details of at least three referees.
