Starting salary for this adjunct position is: $40.83 - $86.87 per hour based on workload category.
This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. Spokane Colleges reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. The Social Sciences department housed in the Humanities and Social Sciences division at Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) is seeking a Part-Time Adjunct Sociology Instructor. SFCC is one of two accredited community colleges that comprise the Spokane Colleges. SFCC serves approximately 6000 students from across greater Spokane and five rural counties in our service area, including students from the Spokane Tribe, other Eastern Washington tribes, and from Fairchild Air Force Base. About two-thirds of our students enroll in one of our transfer degrees, and approximately one-third enroll in one of our professional-technical programs.

About the Sociology Instructor - Adjunct - Spokane Fall Community College
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares for and instructs lower-division sociology courses online, on-ground, or in other flexible modalities
Provides availability and accessibility to students for the purpose of academic consulting and support, in a manner appropriate to meet students' needs, through a combination of office hours, email accessibility, or other effective means of responsive and timely communication
Communicates expectations and establishes clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluates student progress and provides clear, timely feedback.
Demonstrates commitment to advancing diversity, promoting equity, and preparing students to live responsibly in an increasingly global civilization.
Demonstrates commitment to serving a socially and culturally diverse student population.
Complies with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; follows established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, office support, student financial aid requirements, safety and health issues and related administrative processes.
Models professional decorum and mutual respect in personal interactions
Complies with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statute and collective bargaining agreements
Supports and advances the Spokane Colleges strategic plan and perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An earned Master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution with 25 graduate credits in sociology (minimum of one theory course required).
Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals and objectives of CCS.
Demonstrated competence in working with diverse student populations and an appreciation for diverse voices in the classroom.
Ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution and the community/technical college system.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in Sociology from an accredited institution.
Additional experience in teaching a variety of teaching modalities, specifically hybrid/blended classes.
Prior community college teaching experience.
Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. Benefits Information
Adjunct faculty must work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full-time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only). Once determined to be eligible, benefits begin on the first day of the month following the beginning of the quarter. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; TIAA-Cref retirement plan or WA State Retirement Plan; leave accruals and usage are governed by the faculty master contract.
