Join Our Team at the School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

The School of Biological Sciences (SBS), part of the College of Science, was established in 2002 with a mission to advance biological and biomedical sciences. At SBS, our research spans various areas, including infectious diseases, immunology, neurodegenerative diseases, telomere biology, and genome function. Over the years, SBS has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.

We are seeking a Research Fellow to join a new research group using CRISPR functional genomics and stem-cell-derived organoids to explore human brain development and evolution. This is a rare opportunity to co-develop an independent project rooted in cutting-edge experimental tools. We are especially interested in applicants with experience in other organoid systems (e.g., gut, kidney, heart) or with big, ambitious ideas that extend the lab’s focus. You will receive direct mentorship, generous support, and space to launch a scientific program you can carry with you into a future faculty role. Learn more about our lab at https://www.richardshelab.com/.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and lead a novel research project aligned with your scientific interests and the lab’s experimental strengths

  • Drive your project from conception to publication with a high degree of ownership and intellectual leadership

  • Contribute intellectually to lab meetings, manuscript writing, and collaborative efforts

  • Mentor junior trainees and help cultivate a rigorous and supportive lab culture

  • Disseminate findings via peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and preprints

  • Prepare for transition to independent faculty or PI-track positions, with guidance from the PI on project framing and long-term strategy

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in life sciences, biomedical sciences, developmental biology, neuroscience, or a related field

  • Strong wet-lab experience and comfort working in an experimental biology setting

  • Demonstrated capacity to drive a scientific project forward, through uncertainty, iteration, and technical challenge

  • Intellectual creativity paired with the persistence to see ambitious ideas through to execution

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset

  • We especially encourage applicants with experience in organoid systems beyond the cerebral cortex, or with research questions that complement and extend the lab’s focus

  • This is not a computational-only role; applicants should be comfortable generating and interpreting biological data at the bench

The College of Science seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit on the basis of merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability.

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
